Q. When did you start making ornaments?
A. I turned my first one in 1992.
Q. Why do your ornaments cost so much?
A. Premium-quality wood is expensive. Tools are expensive. Even though I operate a low-tech shop, materials, production costs, and electricity all add up. Good isn’t cheap; cheap isn’t good.
Q. Do you offer discounts?
A. Not as a rule, but if you’re planning to place a large order, contact me first.
Q. What forms of payment do you accept?
A. You are welcome to pay by check, and I will ship as soon as your check clears. I also accept payment through PayPal. The price of each ornament includes full insurance and shipment by priority mail to addresses within the continental United States. I automatically insure every order to protect your investment. If a piece is damaged in transit, contact your local post office for instructions.
Q. Can I return an ornament?
A. I’m sorry, but I don’t accept returns. I want you to be happy with your ornament, so If you’re uncertain about a piece that you want to purchase, contact me first and I’ll tell you more about it.
Q. Why do some ornaments cost a lot more than others?
A. The cost of the woods and the complexity of the pendants are the biggest factors. It is very difficult to turn and sand some woods, and this usually affects the price. An ornament’s size isn’t always a factor in its price.
Q. Someone bought the ornament I want. Can you help me?
A. Yes! Contact me with the serial number of the piece and I’ll make one similar to it. I’ll email you a photo of the new ornament for your approval. Remember that certain characteristics, such as grain patterns and colors, are unique to each piece and cannot be duplicated.
Q. Do you also make tops, dreidels, drop spindles, and lace bobbins?
A. No.
Q. Can I use my Sunrise ornament as a fan pull?
A. No. Some people probably do, but you shouldn’t.
Q. How big are the ornaments?
A. They range from about 4” tall to about 9”. (I never measure anything.) The centers vary from about as small as an Oreo cookie or a walnut to as large as an orange.
Q. Do you enjoy turning the ornaments?
A. Yes! If I didn’t love it, I wouldn’t be able to do it. |
